Lyme Disease Treatment and Research Center being established in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
The Director is Burton A. Waisbren Sr., M.D.-F.A.C.P. Fellow, Infectious Disease Society of America

Since 1989, when I discovered that Amyotropic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) may in some cases be related to Lyme disease, I have been studying and treating Lyme disease, along with its many neurological and clinical manifestations.  Several clinical studies have convinced me that some syndromes, such as those defined as ALS and Multiple Sclerosis (MS) may actually be caused by Lyme disease.  And furthermore, patients with these diseases may be helped by the treatments recommended for Lyme disease.  It will take some time to prove this if it is true, but in the meantime, it seems reasonable that some patients, who have likely had exposure to tics, should try an empirical course of Lyme disease treatment.

This idea has stimulated a good deal of interest so I decided to start a treatment center for Lyme disease.  It will be dedicated to the treatment of not only chronic Lyme disease, but diseases that theoretically may respond to the antibiotic treatments recommended for Lyme disease.  These diseases include ALS and MS, and others where it is reasonable to assume patients have had exposure to tics.  I would not be embarking on this endeavor had I not already seen some exciting results.  Following this announcement, please refer to the personal account of three of my chronic Lyme disease patients on this website.

I will gladly work in conjunction with other physicians and realize that many patients who may benefit from treatment are in a variety of geographic locations.  If you have any questions or concerns, or for more information, please write me at:

I will begin a registry of those who try treating ALS, MS and other suspected tic related diseases with specific recommended types and dosages of antibiotics.  I hypothesize that world-wide through word of mouth on the Internet, we might find some answers, long before traditional studies do the same.  This registry will include both physician and patient data.  It will include all results-successes and failures.  I will share the registry with anyone who wants to see it.  Of course, complete confidentiality will be observed.
